Smashing Shells

It was one of those days.  Kids are bored.  Mom is on edge.
We need an activity and we need to smash something.
Ding! Ding! Ding!  Winner = Easter eggs I threw away that morning.
Thankfully it was a light trash day in the kitchen and they were able to be rescued from the trash.

This picture shows the nails.  Knowing this just makes the next picture all the better.

What a girly tool girl.

Last egg...

smashed!
"Mom, let's make some more."
"Maybe next year Scott."

Egg masterpiece almost complete.
Just needs a name...well the name turned into lovely pen art surround the shells.

snorkeling

One day Scott asked if he could have a snorkel.
Why not.

Surprisingly it was a success.

Did Sydney want a snorkel?  No.  There's no underwater swimming happening with this girl quite yet.  Swimming lessons are a month away...

Hula Hoops

This hula hoop spent some time hanging from the stairs.  He made an excellent hoop, aka, basketball goal.

Don't mind that they don't have shirts.  Sydney refused to put one on.  They just came in from swimming and they both wanted to dress like daddy.

Easter and final egg hunt

My egg hunt pictures didn't come out very good so this is all you get.
This year the Easter Bunny hid money eggs outside and one of them has a slip of paper inside that says, You won a prize!  Pink and purple for Sydney while Scott finds blue and green.

They came inside to open them and every once in awhile I would hear from Sydney, "Maybe this one has candy."  Perhaps the Easter Bunny will have better luck with the money eggs next year.

Interior Updating

We finally finished up painting the half bath downstairs, office and dining room.  I would like to thank my husband for letting me take weeks and weeks to complete the project.  So of course I forgot to take a before picture of the bathroom and office but managed to snap a few of the dining room before too much of the room was painted.  There's still curtains and pictures to hang but the rooms are not so dull anymore.

It's nearly impossible to get a good picture of the bathroom because it's so small but with these you get the idea.

Celebrate!

Easter grass.  Thoughts?  I'm sure you have some.
Could they have not come up with something better by now?
Will I be finding stray pieces around my house for months to come?
Will I purchase it next year?  Probably.

Sydney has been wanting to do this ALL day.

"Celebrate!"  Is what she's yelling.

Egg Hunt #2

The second egg hunt this year was with our little group of friends.
We just hid some eggs at a local park.

I just had to include this photo...Scott's black shirt and chain he scored from the treasure box at school make a lovely combo. He just needed to sag his pants a bit and he would of totally pulled off the look.

Egg Hunt #1

The first official egg hunt of 2012 was the city egg hunt.

She has mastered this face.  Pitiful.

Random side note: The man in the background was Scott's baseball coach last year.  I didn't realize it until looking at pictures.

Time to check and see if we won a prize this year.  Only candy except Sydney won a free kids meal at What-a-burger.

Easter Eggs

For the second year in a row we blew out the insides of our Easter eggs so they could sit out and be enjoyed until Easter.
Plus, I'm the only one that eats hard boiled eggs around here and that would be a lot of eggs to eat.

This year we changed up the dying method.  I saw this idea somewhere on the web...put the egg in a strainer, sitting on a bowl and dash with vinegar.  Then just squirt food coloring onto the egg.

I rinsed off the extra dye with vinegar and water.  Just sort of made that part up.

They didn't dry as bright as these but it sure was less stressful and more enjoyable for the kids than the old fashion way!

First harvest of 2012

Our first harvest was picked yesterday.  There was one more sweet pea but I ate it.  I had to make sure they were edible.  Strawberry was not so great but the peas were yummy.  Sydney asked if she could get more for Christmas.  That's her default these days if she wants something,
"Maybe I can get _______ (insert item) for Christmas."  Today at the park we left a rolly polly instead of bringing it home and she asked for one for Christmas.

March mini-moments

Just a few things from March that I want to remember...

The girls went postal for a day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

How does Scott get ready to swim?  Clothes everywhere.

Super sized bubbles.

Memaw's birthday

We helped Memaw celebrate her birthday this weekend when they came to visit.  Sydney was a bit preoccupied with her new microphone to pose for a picture but she did serenade us with some lovely birthday songs.

You really can't experience the singing through the picture so here's a little taste of the action.

Then it was time for the cake and we all got a chance to sing.

Curious Juice

Curious George is a rather influential monkey.  There's one episode where George makes all kinds of juice with a juicer from fruits and vegetables.  Then at the end of the episode it shows children actually doing this so Sydney was on my case asking to make juice for days and we finally did.
I thought this could be a great.  We can make a chart and record if you like it or not, etc, etc.
She told me no.  Maybe later.

So here's the ingredient run down.  The blueberries got mixed with a bit of yogurt because 5 of them don't blend very well in a blender all by themselves.

She did try them all...

except for spinach.  I don't blame her.

We did this last week and she's already asked 2 times this week to make more.
Hmmm...I wonder what my weekend entails?!
